Constant Voltage Transformers

Share: Facebook Twitter Stumble
CVT( Constant Voltage Transformer) is designed on the basic principle of Ferro - resonance, in which output winding is resonated with the help of select value or high stability capacitors. This is most reliable product as there is no moving part thus bringing maintenance cost to zero.

Single Phase

Single Phase

Constant voltage transformer uses a tank circuit composed of a high-voltage resonant winding and a capacitor to produce a nearly constant average output with a varying input. The ferromagnetic approach is attractive due to its lack of active components, relying on the square loop saturation characteristics of the tank circuit to absorb variations in average input voltage. Older designs of ferromagnetic transformers had an output with high harmonic content, leading to a distorted output waveform. Modern devices are used to construct a perfect sine wave. The ferromagnetic action is a flux limiter rather than a voltage regulator, but with a fixed supply frequency it can maintain an almost constant average output voltage even as the input voltage varies widely.

Salient features

isolation transformer : the input supply is completely isolated from the output, by means of an isolation transformer.

Ferraro resonant technology

no moving parts

overload protection

short circuit protection

spike rejection capabilities

floating output

no semi-conductors used (normal cvt)

no electronics circuits (normal cvt)

faster voltage correction than servo stabilizer

Applications:

the cvt's are used for various applications like computers, data processing equipment, audio/video equipment, photo processing equipment, bio-medical equipment, telex, epabx, fax, cash registers, electronic typewriters, internet application, modem & other accessories like netphone, control panels, etc.
